London is a global city. With a round-the-clock economy valued at nearly £520 billion, much of its economic activities take place beyond ‘standard’ working hours. Of the capital's approximately 5.3 million-strong workforce, 1.3m typically work between the hours of 6pm–6am.
London is known for its vibrant nightlife, but there are also many less immediately visible activities taking place every night. Night workers keep London's hospitals staffed, streets clean, shelves stocked and deliveries moving.
Yet they remain statistically invisible, geographically peripheral and economically insecure.
Data After Dark reveals the people, places and pressures that define the city at night.
